This cute hat is quick and easy to make, and can be done either with two needles or in the round with circulars and double points. (Knit the in the round version, and you’ll avoid having to sew a seam!) The brim on this hat is knit in stockinette, which naturally rolls. The hat fits average adult women.

Materials

1 skein Kureyon by Noro

1 ball Fizz by Crystal Palace Yarns

In the round version:

Size 9 U.S. (5.5 mm) 16″ or 20″ circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Size 9 U.S. (5.5 mm) double pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Two needle version:

Size 9 U.S. (5.5 mm) straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge

15 stitches and 21 rows = 4″ in stockinette with Kureyon

In The Round Version

With one strand of Kureyon and Fizz held together, CO 80 sts. Make sure sts aren’t twisted. Join. Mark beg of round. Work in St st (k every rnd) 1 ½″.

Dec:

*K8, k2tog; rep from * across–72 sts

Cut Fizz. Cont knitting in St st with Kureyon (k every rnd) 5 additional inches.

Begin dec. Change to double points when you can no longer fit sts comfortably on circulars.

Rnd 1: *K7, k2tog; rep from * across–64 sts

Rnds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14: K

Rnd 3: *K6, k2tog; rep from * across–56 sts

Rnd 5: *K5, k2tog; rep from * across–48 sts

Rnd 7: *K4, k2tog; rep from * across–40 sts

Rnd 9: *K3, k2tog; rep from * across–32 sts

Rnd 11: *K2, k2tog; rep from * across–24 sts

Rnd 13: *K1, k2tog; rep from * across–16 sts

Rnd 15: K2tog across–8 sts

Finishing

Cut yarn, leaving long tail. Thread tail through tapestry needle, and thread through each rem st on needle as if to purl, taking sts off needle. Pull tightly to close top of hat. Weave in ends on WS.

Two Needle Version

With one strand of Kureyon and Fizz held together, CO 80 sts. Work in St st (k one row and p the next; the k rows are the RS) 1 ½″. End with WS row completed.

Dec:

*K8, k2tog; rep from * across72 sts

Cut Fizz. Cont knitting in St st with Kureyon (k one row and p the next) 5 additional inches. End with WS completed.

Begin dec.

Row 1: *K7, k2tog; rep from * across–64 sts

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14: P

Row 3: *K6, k2tog; rep from * across–56 sts

Row 5: *K5, k2tog; rep from * across–48 sts

Row 7: *K4, k2tog; rep from * across–40 sts

Row 9: *K3, k2tog; rep from * across–32 sts

Row 11: *K2, k2tog; rep from * across–24 sts

Row 13: *K1, k2tog; rep from * across–16 sts

Row 15: k2tog across–8 sts

Finishing

Cut yarn, leaving long tail. Thread tail through tapestry needle, and thread through each rem st on needle as if to purl, taking sts off needle. Pull tightly to close top of hat. Use tail to sew seam. Sew seam on the roll brim so the seam will be on the “inside” (WS) of the roll brim and not show. Weave in ends on WS.
