Holiday Craft Project: A Festival of Lights Menorah
Share this with your friends
Delight your friends and relatives with this traditional menorah, constructed from simple craft supplies. This is a great project for kids, too—and while they help you assemble it, you can tell them all about the story of the festival of lights.
A stylish way to celebrate the Festival of the Lights.
Level: Moderately easy
Time involved: Three to four hours, including drying time
Materials:
- Newspapers or plastic
- Block of wood 26×4 inches
- Sandpaper
- Blue craft paint
- Paintbrush
- Clear acrylic finish spray
- 10 2 ½-inch glass flowerpots or votive lights
- Six bags of blue-and-white marbles or decorative glass pieces
- Piece of cardboard
- Glue gun
- Hanukkah candles
- Cover your work area with newspapers or plastic. Sand any rough edges off the board with the sandpaper. Place the board on top of the prepared area and paint the top and sides with blue craft paint and allow to dry. If necessary, give the wood a second coat of paint. Spray the wood with clear acrylic finish spray and allow to dry.
- Space the nine glass pots equally along the board in a straight line. Fill the fifth pot with the marbles or glass pieces, and place a piece of cardboard over the top of it. Turn this upside down using the cardboard to keep the marbles or glass inside. Slide the pot into its place on the middle of the board and remove the cardboard. Carefully lift up the edges of the pot and glue it onto the board using a glue gun. Glue the rest of the pots onto the board right side up. Glue the tenth pot right-side up onto the bottom of the fifth pot to form a holder for the shamash.
- Place a candle in each pot. Fill the pots with decorative glass or marbles to hold the candles in place.
Give our menorah a place of pride in your house, and enjoy it all season long! Happy holidays!
