In January 2010, Bulgarian National Television began an online campaign to find out what Bulgarians thought was the most revolutionary household device of the twentieth century. The results were amazing. A staggering 25 percent voted the “chushkopek” as the winner. What is a chushkopek? It is a cylindrical appliance lined with a heater, and is used to roast 1 to 7 roast peppers. This nifty device beat out such twentieth-century advances as electricity (16 percent), television and radio (13 percent), and even cellphones (10 percent).
Not surprisingly, the chushkopek was patented in Bulgaria.
