Barbie® is a cheesehead.
The most famous doll in the world doesn’t just have a first name. Barbie®’s full name is Barbie Millicent Roberts; she is from Willows, Wisconsin and goes to Willows High School.
In honor of the anniversary of the invention of Barbie® on February 4, 1959, here are some other fun facts:
- Barbie® has had more than 40 pets, including 21 dogs, 12 horses, 3 ponies, 6 cats, a parrot, a chimpanzee, a panda, a lion cub, a giraffe, and a zebra.
- Barbie® has five sisters: Skipper® (1964), Tutti (her twin, 1966), Stacie® (1992), Kelly® (1995), and Krissy™ (1999).
- Barbie® has had more than 100 careers, including astronaut, paleontologist, Desert Storm medic Sergeant, and presidential candidate. But her first career was teenage fashion model.
- Ken® and Barbie® broke up on Valentine’s Day in 2004 after being together 43 years.
- Placed head to toe, Barbie® dolls and family members sold since 1959 would circle the earth 8 times.
- The best selling Barbie® was Totally Hair Barbie®, who had hair that went all the way down to her toes. The doll was released in 1991; by 1995 more than 10 million had been sold world wide, setting the world record for longest successful toy sale.
