Originally introduced in 1932, the 3 Musketeers candy bar was the third candy bar brand produced by the M&M/MARS company. The candy was so named because it had three separate bars in each package—one flavored vanilla, one chocolate, and one strawberry. At 5 cents, it was the biggest candy bar for the price and became a huge hit. However, during World War II, rationing and the soaring price of sugar forced the company to discontinue the vanilla and strawberry bars and just make a single bar out of the most popular flavor, chocolate.
